Ojibwe Native American medicine men, belonging to the "Secret Society of Healers, Midewiwin (Me`d eh we win)" painted their faces red for ceremonial purposes. The highest ranking midewiwin, further adorned themselves with a green diagonal stripe. The addition of white lines rising from the eye denoted the ability to see into the future.
